Abstinence Program: Teaching Sexual Purity

Life House has developed an interactive, fact-based program, presenting an abstinence-only message to schools, civic organizations, and church groups. The program can be adapted for singles of all ages.

The purpose is to ...

    • Help singles know how to respect themselves and their sexuality.
    • Teach the benefits of saving sex before marriage.
    • Teach the consequences of having sex before marriage.
    • Teach the facts about STD's (Sexually Transmitted Diseases).
    • Teach the difference between love and infatuation.
    • Help singles find the hope of secondary virginity.

The program emphasizes a positive plan for relationships. It also encourages sexual purity before and in marriage. The issues are discussed using skits, illustrations, personal stories, and other effective means.

Why is abstinence education needed? (Data from National Prevention Information Network)

  • 15.3 million new STD's are reported each year.
  • The rates of STDs are 50-100 times higher in the United States than in other industrial nations.
  • STDs affect men and women of all backgrounds and economic levels.  However, STDs disproportionately affect women, infants, young people, and minorities.  STDs are most prevalent among teens and young adults with nearly two-thirds of all STDs occurring in people under age 25.
  • Some contributing factors in the rise of STDs include the facts that young people have become sexually active earlier, divorce is more common, and sexually active people are more likely to have multiple sex partners.

Safe sex has been proven to be a myth.

The only safe sex is in a marriage committed to life-long faithfulness.
